RATIONALE

POLICY

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that Canada International Royal Arts School is accessible to all students, staff, families, and visitors. In alignment with the Accessible British Columbia Act (2021), we are committed to identifying, removing, and preventing barriers to full and equal participation in our learning environment. This policy reflects our dedication to fostering an inclusive, diverse, and universally designed school community.
This policy applies to all members of the school community, including students, staff, families, visitors, and any other individuals interacting with our school. It encompasses physical spaces, academic resources, communication methods, technologies, and school services.

Definitions

• Barrier: Anything that hinders the full and equal participation of individuals with impairments. Barriers may be physical, attitudinal, technological, communicational, or systemic.
• Disability: An inability to participate fully and equally in society as a result of the interaction of an impairment and a barrier.
• Impairment: A physical, sensory, mental, intellectual, or cognitive impairment, whether permanent, temporary, or episodic.

Accessibility Plan

As required by Section 11 of the Act, the school will develop, implement, and regularly update an Accessibility Plan to ensure compliance with provincial accessibility standards. The plan will address barriers in the following areas:• Physical accessibility: Ensuring the school’s built environment is fully accessible.• Learning materials and teaching methods: Ensuring adaptive tools and technologies are available to support students with disabilities.• School policies and practices: Ensuring that school procedures do not create barriers to inclusion.
